After Pathaan’s Worldwide Success, Siddharth Anand Becomes One Of 2023’s Most Successful Filmmakers
Pathaan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, was a much-anticipated release earlier this year. The film, which saw the actor return to the big screen after a four-year inactivity was the topic of conversation in the town. Along with Neetu Kapoor, John Abraham, and Deepika Padukone played significant parts in the Siddharth Anand-directed Yash Raj Films production.
Not unexpectedly, in the run-up to its premiere, Pathaan was billed as one of the largest moneymakers since the pandemic. The movie, which had a broad distribution, exceeded everyone’s expectations, and it started out well thanks to enthusiastic reviews and incredibly favourable audience feedback. The movie’s business also increased significantly.
Surprisingly, Pathaan has done successfully in both domestic and international markets. While the Shah Rukh Khan-starring movie brought in a phenomenal Rs. 534.05 crores at the box office domestically, it grossed a staggering Rs. 396.02 crores overseas throughout its theatrical run. In fact, the movie became a worldwide sensation as people flocked to theatres repeatedly to make it a colossal smash unlike any other, earning over Rs. 1050.30 crores globally!
In a media interview following the release and subsequent popularity of Pathaan, Siddharth Anand stated, “I’m delighted that Pathaan has grown into a turning point for the industry. It was said that people had boycotted us. I’m pleased that Pathaan has emerged as an answer to all of that discussion. Enough has been said about the industry. I’m glad we allowed our work to speak for itself.”
Looking at the box office business, Siddharth Anand is placed second among all-time top filmmakers when it comes to domestic box office business, due to the phenomenal success of Pathaan. While Rohit Shetty tops the table with a total haul of Rs. 1656.86 crores from 15 movies, Anand comes in second with a total collection of Rs. 1183.12 crores from just seven films.
If that wasn’t enough, Anand is the director with the highest solo-grossing film, with Pathaan earning Rs. 543.05 crores by itself, with the only other filmmaker comparable being SS Rajamouli, whose Baahubali 2 – The Conclusion (Hindi) earned Rs. 510.99 crores.
Now, with Pathaan, Anand has proven his mettle in providing content that connects with the public even years after its release, following the commercial success of his previous film War in 2019, not to mention additional smashes like Salaam Namaste and Bang Bang.
