Shah Rukh Khan Reveals the Untold Story Behind Turning Down Munna Bhai M.B.B.S

Shah Rukh Khan’s latest film, Dunki, has taken the audience by storm, earning praise not only in India but also globally.  The unique collaboration between Shah Rukh Khan’s unconventional acting and Rajkumar Hirani’s masterful direction is the film’s highlight, a partnership that fans have eagerly anticipated for a long time. While Dunki continues to win hearts, Shah Rukh Khan recently unveiled the real reason behind his decision to step away from Rajkumar Hirani’s earlier project, Munna Bhai M.B.B.S, shedding light on a fascinating chapter in Bollywood history.

During a promotional event for Dunki, Shah Rukh Khan shared an intriguing revelation about the past. He disclosed that Rajkumar Hirani initially offered him the lead role in Munna Bhai M.B.B.S during the filming of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s iconic movie, Devdas. As the editor for Bhansali’s masterpiece, Hirani saw an opportunity and pitched the script or Munna Bhai M.B.B.S to Shah Rukh Khan.

Recalling the moment, Shah Rukh shared that upon hearing the title Munna Bhai M.B.B.S, he was so captivated that he instantly committed to the film without even reading the script. Rajkumar Hirani, surprised by this response, questioned if Shah Rukh had any knowledge of the storyline. In response, Shah Rukh humorously affirmed that the title alone was enough to convince him.

Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani collaborated on Munna Bhai M.B.B.S for an extensive period, investing five to six months in the project. However, fate took an unexpected turn when Shah Rukh suffered a spinal injury during that time, casting uncertainty on his recovery timeline. Realising the film couldn’t be put on hold any longer, the duo amicably decided to part ways on Munna Bhai M.B.B.S, leading to Sanjay Dutt eventually taking up the iconic role.

While the decision was undoubtedly a significant loss for Shah Rukh Khan, Munna Bhai M.B.B.S went on to become a cult classic, with Sanjay Dutt stepping into the iconic role. Fast forward two decades, and Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani finally joined forces again for Dunki. The collaboration, after years of anticipation, proved to be well worth the wait.

As Shah Rukh wraps up Dunki, he is gearing up for his next venture scheduled to commence filming in March 2024. The journey from the untold past of Munna Bhai M.B.B.S to the present success of Dunki showcases the resilience and creativity that define the illustrious career of Shah Rukh Khan.
