Yash Raj Films Signs Shiv Rawail for a Female-Led Spy Film with Alia Bhatt and Sharvari

Yash Raj Films (YRF) is set to expand its Spy Universe with its first female-led spy film, featuring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari in lead roles. Renowned director Shiv Rawail, known for his work on YRF’s Netflix series “The Railway Men,” has been tapped to helm this ambitious project.

Shiv Rawail, who made his directorial debut with “The Railway Men,” has already entered the pre-production phase for the untitled spy film, with shooting expected to commence in the second half of 2024. This film marks YRF’s first venture into a female-led spy story, and Alia Bhatt and Sharvari will play super-agents in this cinematic universe.

Sources close to the development reveal that Aditya Chopra, the founder of Yash Raj Films, has been considering Shiv Rawail for some time, given his success with “The Railway Men.” The show, which premiered on Netflix in November 2023, garnered popularity in the digital space. Shiv Rawail, who previously worked as an assistant director for Aditya Chopra, is now set to lead the first female spy film in YRF’s ambitious Spy Universe.

Commenting on the project, an insider stated, “Adi (Aditya Chopra) is certain that he (Shiv Rawail) is the finest director to helm the young female-led action blockbuster from the YRF Spy Universe that stars Alia Bhatt in the lead along with Sharvari… It’s an ambitious project for all parties involved, and the creators will go to any length to make it a big theatrical draw for audiences. There will be many surprises in this yet-to-be-titled spy thriller, as the goal is to give additional flavour to the already established universe.”

The YRF Spy Universe kicked off in 2012 with “Ek Tha Tiger” and has since seen successful releases like “Tiger Zinda Hai,” “War,” “Pathaan,” and “Tiger 3.” Upcoming projects include “War 2” with Hrithik Roshan and NTR Jr, followed by the Alia Bhatt and Sharvari starrer. The Spy Universe has become a cinematic phenomenon, drawing audiences with its high-octane action and star-studded casts.
