Tamanna Bhatia, Virat Kohli, Aju Varghese accused of promoting online betting, Kerala High Court issues notice

Tamanna Bhatia (PC : Instagram) Actresses Tamanna Bhatia, Aju Varghese, and cricketer Virat Kohli may get in trouble over encouraging betting. All three celebrities have been issued notices by the Kerala High Court. The trio has been accused of promoting betting, due to which this notice has been issued. Actually, Tamanna Bhatia, Virat Kohli and Aju Varghese are the brand ambassadors of an online rummy game. As these celebrities are seen featuring in TV ads and commercials of this gambling game, all of them have been accused of promoting online betting. Apart from this, the High Court has also sought answers from the state government in this matter. Aju Varghese (PC : Instagram) Earlier in July 2020, a Chennai-based lawyer filed a petition in the Madras High Court against Tamanna Bhatia and Virat Kohli. The lawyer claimed that Tamanna and Virat are promoting online betting through their advertisement. At the same time, the lawyer had urged the court to issue instructions to ban online betting as the youth is getting addicted to it. The petitioner-advocate said that the online rummy based apps are trying to mislead the youth by using celebrities like Virat Kohli and Tamanna Bhatia and should be banned. The lawyer had filed this petition in the court after taking cognizance of an incident in which a youth committed suicide as he was unable to pay the lost amount in online betting. Virat Kohli (PC : Instagram) Significantly, the Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli and Bollywood actress Tamanna Bhatia advertise the Mobile Premier League (MPL) too. MPL is also considered an addictive game, in which one can earn money by playing multiple games on the platform.
